Happy birthday to the most FABULOUS brother in the world. Honestly, there are no words to describe how amazing Jermaine is and always will be. We shared bunk beds as kids, went to college together, and lived with each other for years after that. Needless to say, I know this guy really well. He is the most creative, caring, fashionable, hilarious, intelligent, and dependable person I know. I could not have asked for a better person to look up to. One of my favorite stories involving the two of us is when I ran into him at the gay club for the first time in college. He had come out to me before I got to school because he wanted me to know and had a pretty good idea that I was gay too. After he told me I remember saying okay and continuing to play my video game.  At the time my mind was racing. I was trying to decide if this was the moment to jump up and yell ME TOO!!! But I wasn’t ready. So the sky didn’t open up and shower us with glitter and drag queens didn’t come twirling around corner but I like the way story played out in the end. It goes a little something like this:
Jermaine: Heeeey.
Me: Hi…
Jermaine: …
Me: My boyfriend just broke up with me.
Jermaine: He’ll never work in this town again!*
He dragged me to the dance floor and we partied. It has been a never ending party ever since and I will be on this train until the wheels fall off. The most important thing that Jermaine has taught me, and has inspired me the most, is to never apologize for who you are. EVER. Wear a purse and give those judgmental folks a look that says JEALOUS?Put every piece of jewelry in the world on a jacket and strut down the street like you are Janet in Rhythm Nation. U MAD?  Flat iron your hair into a faux hawk and dye the tips pink, SAY SOMETHING! I have no doubt that you will continue to surprise us all.  I wish you all the best in the world. You are the best brother and friend I could ever ask for. Today we celebrate you. I love you! HAPPY BIRTHDAY!
*He never did.
